Who is “Doctor Who”?
“Doctor Who” is BBC’s one of the most popular science fiction television series started in 1963. It depicts the adventures of a “Time Lord” called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being acting as a human. The Doctor travels through the universe in a travelling spaceship called TARDIS which looks like a British “Police Box” from outside. TARDISes are built with a “chameleon circuit”, a type of camouflage technology that changes the exterior form of the ship to blend into the environment of whatever time or place it lands in.
During the travel, the doctor does philanthropic work to save lives and gives freedom to those who are oppressed. While doing this, he has to combat with foes coming across. The Doctor always travels with companions.
Time Lord “transforms” into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally and that is where Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) is set to lead the series as fifteenth doctor. The Doctor started with William Hartnell, thirteen actors have appeared in the series as Doctor, and now, in 2023, Ncuti Gatwa makes an electrifying appearance as the Doctor in a fun-packed extravaganza. He oozes charisma, switches from charming to serious in the blink of an eye – and saves Davina McCall’s life.

The “Doctor Who” programme was originally intended to appeal to a family audience as an educational programme using time travel as a means to explore scientific ideas and famous moments in history.
On 4 August 2013, a live programme titled Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor was broadcast on BBC One, during which the actor who was going to play the Twelfth Doctor was revealed The live show was watched by an average of 6.27 million in the UK, and was also simulcast in the United States, Canada and Australia.

There was sad news on Christmas day i.e. 25th Dec 2023, when Richard Franklin best known for portraying Captain Mike Yates of UNIT in Doctor Who from 1971 until 1974, died at the age of 87.
Franklin will be remembered by Doctor Who fans for playing the recurring character of Captain Yates, a companion of the Doctor who helped to repel alien invasions of Earth during classic episodes in the 1970s.
