Donald Trump rally shooting
Former US President Donald Trump was evacuated to a safe space after gunshots were heard in the crowd during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Sunday.
According to a White House spokesperson, the suspect and at least one attendee were killed, while two others were injured. Trump was visibly bleeding from his right ear as he was removed from the stage. He later stated he was “fine” and undergoing a check-up, recounting the moment he realized something was wrong as a bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear.
One spectator at the Trump rally is dead from a shot to the head by the sniper and one is in critical condition from a gunshot wound and it’s been confirmed that the shooter is now dead. According to an eyewitness who was behind the President, the two people shot were right near him. Yet in looking at the video there doesn’t appear to be anyone trying to render aid to the victims.
After being shot, Trump ducked to the ground and was quickly surrounded by Secret Service personnel. He soon rose to his feet, bleeding from his right ear. He then pumped his fist into the air and shouted “fight, fight” before Secret Service agents rushed him to a vehicle. Trump was then taken to a hospital and released in a stable condition, departing by plane to New Jersey.
US President Joe Biden called for an end to political violence after gunfire erupted at Republican challenger Donald Trump’s political rally in Pennsylvania earlier on Saturday, saying in televised remarks that the former president appeared to be doing well.
The shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination. It is the first time that a former or current U.S. president was injured in an attempted assassination since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981, and the first time for a presidential candidate since the attempted assassination of George Wallace in 1972
“There’s no place in America for this kind of violence. It’s sick,” Biden said, adding that he has been thoroughly briefed on the matter and planned to talk to Trump. “Everybody must condemn it.”
